Reported in AUA Daily Scope:
University of Pennsylvania study reports that up to 3.5% of prostate biopsies were “contaminated” or inadvertently switched with those of another patient. They reviewed 13,000 samples from 54 labs. The overall error rate was < 1%, but rates among different labs ranged as high as 3.51%, and no lab had an error free performance. Originally reported in American Journal of Clinical Pathology.
